After graduating from Northern Michigan University, I moved back downstate to work in a busy metro-Detroit Hospital. My (now) wife was living in Minnesota, and after two years of long-distance dating we decided we had to land in the same place. We were between Marquette, MI or Traverse City, MI. My wife had never been to Traverse City, but the moment we visited and interviewed for jobs– we have not looked back.
I am fortunate to have lived in Australia and Canada during my childhood, but I can honestly say that I have been in Traverse City for 10+ years and I wouldn’t choose any other spot in the world! Traverse City allowed us to have that small-town feel, entertainment options, and the outdoor activities that we both had desired. Every day in Traverse City is a new adventure.
We absolutely love the diverse number of events that are available; whether it is the Cherry Festival, Wooden Boat Shows, Farmers Markets, Beer & Wine Festivals, Music Events, etc. there is always something to do! We live in a truly hidden gem, & being a Northern Navigator gives me a little nostalgia from my College Campus Tour Guide days to show others the amazing community that we are a part of!

INSPIRATION FOR MOVING HERE:
Living in Traverse City provides the unique opportunity to be engrained into your community in ways that just are not possible in other cities. The Traverse City region has so much to offer that you cannot experience in many parts of the country– being on the 45th parallel, we have incredible award winning wineries, we have world-renowned chefs that have moved to the area, we have a health system that is constantly growing and becoming a true ‘destination for care’ in northern Michigan. All of this, yet still have that small-town feel where you run into people you know when you are walking downtown, don’t have to deal with metropolitan traffic, and can be situated on beautiful Lake Michigan! Need I say more?!
TOP TIP?
Don’t be shy! The opportunities to get involved in the community are endless!
