Four years ago, Leah Moskovitz spontaneously took a road trip to the Sleep Bear Dunes after her class at Central Michigan University, and she decided then to make this her new home.

What she's up to lately? "Working for Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency as the Financial and Grant Manager has given me many opportunities to get involved with the community and advocate for affordable and attainable housing for all who live here. I am involved with Safe Harbor, Traverse Connect, Michigan Community Development Association, and several other organizations. There are many opportunities to get involved!"

Leah's top tip for moving here? "Get involved! Find local organizations that align with your passions. From there, you’ll find friends, mentors, and others who share your mission in making this region great!"

Meet Elise Crafts, the founder of Placecraft community development and our Featured Freelancer of the week! Placecraft is a community development firm working to help people and organizations, including nonprofits, governments, and boards, work together to care for their communities and all living beings within.

Elise was recently featured in an article in the Traverse City Record-Eagle where she illustrated the collaborative entrepreneurial environment in Traverse City (link in bio).

“I wouldn’t be where I am today without hundreds of people who have supported my path, and there will be many more to come throughout my career,” she says. “I’d love to connect with more communication and storytelling freelancers/consultants via the directory to see if we can’t drum up more interest for the incredible community work happening right here in northern Michigan.”

Kendal moved to the Traverse City area after graduating from Central Michigan University. Since then, she has extensive experience in a range of industries here, so if you have career questions in the areas of hospitality, event management, wedding planning & coordination, human resources, or local schools, connect with Kendal!

Her thoughts on the small town life? "Although we are a small community, Traverse City has so much to offer. I have absolutely loved building my career and family here over the last 8.5 years and look forward to calling Traverse City home for years to come. When I first moved here, I had no family or friends in the area, and have since built a community and tight circle of friends."

Kendal's top tip? "Find hobbies for all seasons here (winter especially!)"
